Theologian Teacher and Christian Education According to Fr G. Florovksy
Fr Dimitrios Avdelas
The present study attempts to highlight an unknown side of the personality of Fr George Florovsky, which is related to the role of the theologian teacher and the quality of the theological course in education. On the occasion of the presence of the Russian theologian at a special educational conference in the USA in 1955, and following the relevant research in the published proceedings, we present his positions in relation to the role of the theologian in the classroom. Actually, Florovsky distinguished the profile of the religious teacher who doesn’t hesitate to project his beliefs to students, thus constituting a healthy example based on the practical word of faith. We believe that this specific educational proposal on the one hand promotes the relationship between the educator and the school class and on the other hand complements the image of this great theologian, who put forward as a constant demand the connection of theological knowledge with faith and ecclesiastical life.
